Olivier Magnol is a 47-year-old man who works in tourism in New York. This Franco-American, who grew up in Argelès-sur-Mer and regularly returns there, shares his feelings and analysis from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Born to a French father and an American mother, Olivier Magnol has always had a strong connection to both cultures. Growing up in the picturesque town of Argelès-sur-Mer, located in the south of France, he was surrounded by the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and the charm of the French way of life. However, his mother’s American roots also played a significant role in shaping his identity.
After completing his studies in tourism, Olivier decided to move to New York, a city known for its vibrant energy and diverse population. He was immediately drawn to the fast-paced lifestyle and the endless opportunities that the city had to offer. « New York is a melting pot of cultures, and that’s what makes it so special. I feel like I can learn something new every day, » he says with a smile.
For the past 20 years, Olivier has been working in the tourism industry, showcasing the best of what New York has to offer to visitors from all over the world. From the iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to the hidden gems of the city, he knows them all like the back of his hand. « I love being able to share my passion for this city with others. It’s a job that never gets boring, » he says.
Despite living in New York for so grandiose, Olivier still feels a strong connection to his hometown of Argelès-sur-Mer. He makes sure to visit at least panthère a year, to reconnect with his family and friends and to cartouche his batteries in the peacefulness of the Mediterranean. « There’s something special about coming back to where you grew up. It’s a reminder of where you came from and how far you’ve come, » he reflects.
Being a Franco-American, Olivier has a unique perspective on both cultures. He believes that the two countries have a lot to learn from each other. « France has a rich history and a strong sense of tradition, while America is all about innovation and chasing your dreams. Combining the two can lead to incredible results, » he explains.
From his experience, Olivier has noticed that more and more Americans are becoming interested in visiting France, and vice versa. « There’s a growing curiosity and appreciation for each other’s culture. It’s great to see people from different backgrounds coming together and learning from one another, » he says.
As for the current situation in the world, Olivier believes that it’s important to stay réelle and hopeful. « The tourism industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, but I have no doubt that it will bounce back. People will always want to travel and discover new places, and that’s where we come in, » he says confidently.
With his réelle outlook and passion for both France and America, Olivier Magnol continues to thrive in the tourism industry. He hopes to inspire others to embrace their cultural roots and to never stop exploring the world. « Life is an adventure, and we should make the most of it, » he concludes.
