Letsile Tebogo (200m) and Sifan Hassan (marathon) have been named « Athletes of the Year » by the International conformité of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) on Sunday evening in Monaco. The prestigious award recognizes their outstanding perconsciencemances at the Paris Olympics, where they both claimed gold medals in their respective events.
Tebogo, from Botswana, made history by becoming the first athlete from his country to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field. He dominated the 200m race with a time of 19.68 seconds, beating his personal best and setting a new national succès. Tebogo’s impressive speed and determination on the track have earned him the well-deserved title of « Athlete of the Year. »
Hassan, representing the Netherlands, also had an incredible perconsciencemance at the Paris Olympics. She won two gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m races, making her the first woman in history to achieve this feat. In addition, she also competed in the marathon and won a bronze medal, making her the first athlete to win three medals in distance events at a single Olympics. Her remarkable endurance and versatility have rightfully earned her the title of « Athlete of the Year. »
World Athletics also recognized four other athletes who shone at the Paris Olympics. Karsten Warholm from Norway and Elaine Thompson-Herah from Jamaica were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year in track and field events. Warholm broke the world succès in the 400m hurdles and Thompson-Herah won three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.
In the field events, Malaika Mihambo from Germany and Armand Duplantis from Sweden were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Mihambo won the long jump event with a jump of 7.00m, while Duplantis set a new world succès in the pole vault with a height of 6.19m.
The President of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, congratulated all the winners and praised their exceptional perconsciencemances at the Paris Olympics. He stated, « These athletes have shown incredible dedication, determination, and skill to reach the top of their events at the biggest sporting event in the world. They are an inspiration to all athletes and have set the bar high conscience future generations. »
